The Linnaeus Bibliography

The Linnaeus Bibliography

The Linnaeus Bibliography is a subset of the Libris database covering literature by and about Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778). It also includes literature by and about his apostles. The Bibliography was initiated through the international joint project entitled the Linnaeus Link Project, with the aim of obtaining an online union catalogue, namely the Linnaeus Link Union Catalogue. The numbering in Basil H. Soulsby’s Catalogue of the Works of Linnaeus... (no. 1-3874), which covers publications published up to 1931, works as a connecting link between the different collections. Those Linnaean publications identified after that date are provided with post-Soulsby numbers, starting with no. 3875. The responsibility for the union catalogue and the distribution of post-Soulsby numbers lies with the Linnaean Society of London.

Whenever there are digitized versions of Linaeus’ works, even if they are published outside the LIBRIS libraries, there are full-text links, e.g. to the Hunt Institute’s Original Linnaean Dissertations.

LIBRIS records are marked for selection for the Linnaeus Bibliography using the code “LINN” in the 042 field. The Soulsby number is placed in the 510 field with “4” as the first indicator using the models “Soulsby no. 593” or “Post-Soulsby no. 3990”, to enable matching with the Linnaeus Link.
